Re: [802SEC] VeriLAN, projectors, and interims
The motion incorporates two items, extension of a contract so that the projectors would be available on a favorable basis, and who pays for them. Buzz, generally, a host today does not pay for everything, so, the costs of projectors would generally be added to the registration fee putting the costs on the meeting attendees rather than some WGs getting a subsidy from the 802 treasury paid for out of plenary meeting fees.
It was my understanding that IEEE 802 paying for the projectors was a compromise that assumed a limited time period. In eliminating 802 ownership and maintenance of projectors we eliminated the possibility for WGs to borrow the 802 projectors for interims, hence compromising to provide a subsidy from the 802 treasury for wireless WGs. Part of the decision process in that projector ownership decision was as I recall limited by the contract period.
While I am in favor of helping WG get a good deal, I think extension of the payments from the 802 treasury violates the assumption on which the EC decided to get out of owning projectors. It isn't fair to ask plenary meeting attendees to continue to provide a subsidy to those attending an interim meeting beyond that expected when making the projector ownership decision.

It is $200. per week for medium projectors, and $400. per week for large
projectors. Bob's Wireless meeting typically uses 14 small and 2 large =
$3600 for the week, which is way less than what a hotel AV Service would
charge for equivalent projector rentals (>$20K++). I believe 802 should be
willing to share our good deal for Plenaries to support our WG interims
during these difficult economic times as it is hard enough to find hosts
without adding to their burden or further raising the reg fees.
Thanx, Buzz

Before I could vote on this, I would need to understand the cost to the 802
treasury of this. Please provide that information.

Pat
