All, On another note, I will say that Audio is very important. I have been on calls (recently) when some people are in room where the microphone is not that close to the individuals in the room, while others are on the
phone. The Audio in the room was not picked up well, and the people in the room could hear each other well, but those on the phone could not hear them that well. For large meetings we tend to have the person asking a question “go to the mic” which is good, and the presenter speaking into a mic. But we do not always do that for smaller meetings. We would need the person
in the room speaking to always have good microphone access. Also, sometimes in a small room, people talk to those near them, and tend to jump in and interact naturally. We would need to have only one person talking at a time and into a good microphone, so that everyone
could hear well. Regards, Steve From: ***** IEEE 802 Executive Committee List ***** <STDS-802-SEC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG>
On Behalf Of George Zimmerman CAUTION: This email originated from outside of
the organization. Andrew – The way I see it, there are a spectrum of models to choose from. We could go anything on a spectrum from the ‘televised two-way face-to-face’ model (video would be required, and likely production AV staff would be required per meeting room)
to the ‘co-located virtual meeting’ model where this is along the model of the ‘co-located virtual meeting’ model. In an effort to keep bandwidth issues down (for remote and for the site) not having video for anybody simplifies logistics, more along the co-located virtual model. When you suggest mandated video, I’m wondering what your model looks like. Is it just for the presenter? Or does it include questions from the floor and floor debate? -george From: ***** IEEE 802 Executive Committee List ***** <STDS-802-SEC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG>
On Behalf Of Andrew Myles (amyles) G’day Paul I note that you specified no video. Why not go teh other way and require video for the person speaking? Andrew From: ***** IEEE 802 Executive Committee List ***** <STDS-802-SEC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG>
On Behalf Of Paul Nikolich Dear 802 EC Members, We have been kicking around the concept of 'hybrid meetings' for a while now. I would like to re-brand them as 'mixed mode sessions'. In order to open the discussion up to a wider group, George and I thought it would be good to share a draft a "Best Practices for Mixed Mode IEEE 802 LMSC Sessions"
document among the EC for wider discussion and refinement. My objective for the The Best Practices document will at least get the EC on the same page and remove ambiguities or potential misinterpretations when we discuss Mixed Mode Session. My attempt at an initial draft is at https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/21/ec-21-0157-00-00EC-best-practices-for-mixed-mode-ieee-802-lmsc-sessions.docx.
I know it is incomplete and missing a lot of detail -- please feel free to add what is missing or correct my mistakes. I will allocate time during the opening EC meeting to briefly discuss this topic, with the intent of setting aside 60-90 minutes during the July plenary for a
suitable day/time to dive into the details. I know there will be a lot of debate and discussion, let's try to get to consensus on what a fair and equitable Mixed Mode Session is. Then we can determine if any policy changes need to be made. Regards, --Paul p.s., the IEEE Computer Society has tried to assist on this topic with https://www.computer.org/conferences/organize-a-conference/organizer-resources/hybrid-conference-options.
I know we're not even close to the structure of a conference, but perhaps some of the material may be useful in getting us to think more deeply on the subject, like · How
