James and Jon,
Thanks for setting up the ePoll with multiple questions. I think this will be more efficient than email.
I will note that Mentor is not sending out ePoll announcements automatically like it should. We have also seen this issue in 802.19 recently.
Jonathan,
Can you ask IEEE IT why Mentor is no longer sending out announcements of ePolls automatically anymore? Also, it should send out the reminders too, which is not happening either. Those are very helpful in reminding people to vote. Thanks.
Regards,
Steve

Subject: [802SEC] New epoll regarding OM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is new epoll on proposed additions to the OM.
https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/polls?ack=1058
I would request that all EC members respond to the epoll by the closing, next Tuesday so we can discuss the results on the Wednesday call.
The location of the proposed text in the OM has not yet been decided, I would like at this time to determine the direction of the LMSC and then work towards final wording and location.
Background: Recognizing that we cannot predict the next unpredictable event that makes it not possible to carry out IEEE 802 LMSC business in the ordinary manner, it is proposed that we add text that allows suspension or modification of an OM rule in the case of "extraordinary external circumstances"
We have not achieved consensus in a few areas, which are the subject of the epoll:
1) Should we include an explicit maximum time for which any suspension could be valid?
Note:
- The motion would still have to state a time and rationale (or the LMSC would spend a lot of time complaining about the wording of the motion). The additional text in the OM would place an upper limit on the duration of the suspension that could be requested in the motion.
2. Should we allow the IEEE 802 LMSC Chair to suspend the OM, unless it is objected to by any IEEE 802 LMSC voting member?
The discussion on this takes two flavors:
- The may be some circumstance in which an early close electronic ballot cannot complete in time to respond to an exigent circumstance that we cannot predict at this time.
- An LMSC early close ballot can complete in less than 1 hour, but even 24 hours is sufficient for these sorts of decisions.
3. If the LMSC Chair is allowed to suspend the OM, what is the upper limit of the time duration for such suspension?
There are three options presented, check out the epoll for more information or ask on the reflector.
