The chairs, acting as chairs, might have an obligation to be independent. The regular WG participants, OTOH, do not have that obligation, although some may act independently anyway.--On Sun, Oct 29, 2017 at 11:54 PM, Adrian Stephens <adrian.p.stephens@ieee.org> wrote:Hello all,

We have an obligation to be independent. Declaring an affiliation does not remove that obligation.
An affiliation may influence your judgement inasmuch as it exposes you to facts that alter your judgement
(e.g. about the value of some feature in some market). However, the language cited could be read as condoning
an instruction to take a position. It should be clarified.

Dear EC Members,
I asked Jonathan Goldberg to prepare a document that can be used as a 'best practices guide' on the declaration of affiliation requirements for 802 participants (https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/17/ec-17-0171-00-00EC-ie ) and to briefly introduce the topic at the opening EC meeting. I want to ensure the policy is well understood and applied consistently across all our groups. To that end, Jonathan and Kathryn will make themselves to present the full slide deck for discussion and answer questions during your group plenary meetings. Please share the slide deck and allocate time to review during the November plenary session with your groups.ee-declaration-of-affiliation.
