Re: [802SEC] IEEE 802 University Outreach program - draft press release review
Pat
We have the 802.15.6 MBAN (medical body area networks), which has been
published. One of its goals is to improve data collection and sensors
for medicine.
Also, there is new task group, 802.15.4j Medical Body Area Network
Services (MBANS), which is an existing frequency band that will be
opened up to allow use by hospitals for wireless networks, sensors, etc.
These are enabling technologies that can be used to improve data
collection, response time, etc. for better diagnosis and treatment.
Thus, they can be seen as being directed at improving health.
IMHO.

That one day's exposure will "engage" students and faculty in
standards development is overpromising. "introduce" would be more
accurate, but perhaps I'm just being a conservative engineer and the
stronger marketing word should stay.
What standards activity do we have that is directed at improving
health?

Outreach program - draft press release review
Dear EC members,
The IEEE-SA has prepared a press release to announce the launch of
the IEEE 802 University Outreach program and to publicise the IEEE
802 University Outreach day at the July plenary.
Since the development of this press release was at my request I'm
seeking EC approval, however before making a motion to seek
endorsement I would like to request comments on the draft press
release which is attached.
If you can get your comments to me by Wednesday 9th May it would be
most appreciated.
Thanks and best regards, David Law
