Re: [802SEC] Newcomer orientation time slot for future plenaries.
Pat,
Our WG time in March is reduced do to the anniversary events and elections so 802.11 is making a change to its newcomer procedure.
Although we always have a meeting presentation posted to cover items like attendance, badges, IP policy...we will be reducing the amount of time we spend presenting those topics in our opening plenary.
While this should make the regular attendees quite happy we also want to make sure we don't loose the newcomers.
Hence, we have arranged an 802.11 newcomer meeting on Monday from 9am to 10 am (in Bonaire 5) just prior to yours at 10 am(in Boca 5). We believe there is a 10% overlap in topics between the 802.11 centric and 802 newcomer material and we will encourage them to march down the hall to Boca 5 for your additional information.
Since the WG11 orientation occurs before we officially begin for the week, and to encourage newcomers to attend, we went through the pre-registration list to identify first timers listing 802.11 as their primary and sent them an email to announce our plans.
Adrian will be conduction our orientation meeting.

That is about what we have been doing (we include other WG officers or past officers besides vice chairs).
The concern that was raised to me is that more WGs are having meetings in parallel with the EC meeting so that putting the newcomer orientation in parallel with the EC still means that there are conflicts for the potential attendees.
That is why we have the discussion of a possible alternative time.
Regards,
Pat

Pat
Perhaps we could have a WG vice chair give the newcomer orientation and
hold it during the 802 EC opening meeting?
