Re: [802SEC] January 2008 Pacific Rim Interim-response needed
Bob,
I decided to ask the members of the 802.19 TAG to get their
feedback on your two questions.
On member felt that in order to be an international SDO the IEEE
needs to have international meetings. That person stated a preference
for an alternative Pacific Rim location. A direct flight location such
as Seoul, Hong Kong, or Tokyo would be preferred.
Another member spoke against international meeting due to that
high cost which results in many members not being able to attend. This
is a disadvantage for those members and also for the various
working/task groups due to poor attendance.
Another member spoke against Australia since we have visited
there several times before. Also, this member was okay with
international meetings for the IEEE but personally would be unable to
attend due to the cost.
So in summary, the 802.19 TAG is split on this issue, just like
I believe other working groups and TAG may also be split on this issue.
The members did request an alternate Pacific Rim location if we
choose to hold an international meeting.
I hope this information has been helpful.
Regards,
Steve

EC Colleagues
Given that we did not have an opportunity to complete the discussion at
Friday's meeting, I need you to get back to me (no later than close of
business Nov 28) with answers to the following two questions. If I do
not
hear from you, I will assume the answer is no. You can assume that
Pacific
Rim locations will be at least as expensive as London in terms of
registration fees if not more so. Room rates should be substantially
less
and more on a par with US locations. Every effort will be made to keep
costs down.
1. Would you bring your WG to an interim in Sydney in Jan 2008?
2. If you answer to the first question is no, would a location
elsewhere
in the Pacific Rim change your answer?
Based on the number of yes responses to the first question, I will see
if
it possible to put together a workable session with the interested
groups
for review.
