Thank you Geoff for asking for this.
Mike, I would support 802 being involved in this. One thing we know we need is someone willing to act as 802’s representative talking to the local society. Would that be you, or do you have a suggestion?
Regarding the wording, and not wanting 802 to get into wordsmithing, I would suggest we remember that the value of these milestone plaques is that the importance and meaning are recognized by the non-technical-expert individual. I suspect
the title might be reworded (and would be willing to work to help write something) to make it more accessible. For example, it reads like any of a bunch of federal adoptions (which probably wouldn’t get much notice in DC), but also uses jargon, such as RLANs,
which won’t be known. (for example, “wireless LANs” or better “(Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.)” you would reach the public, who often don’t know a “LAN”.) Again, not to get to wordsmithing in the meeting or online, but volunteering to help.

That aspect is well known and expected.
What you have so far looks reasonable.
I believe that the wording of the plaque will require several iterations
as the WaveLAN plaque did.
Attached is an initial proposal but it certainly will need consensus
building as often people have somewhat different views of historical
events. I am flexible and think a compromise can be reached that can be
acceptable to all.
