G’day all,
I have received no objections to the suggested motion to authorise a status update from IEEE 802 to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6. However, I have modified it slightly to reflect that the IEEE 802 JTC1 SC now longer has a Vice Chair (I have stepped down and Peter Yee has been appointed as the new Chair)
Authorize the Chair
& Vice Chairof IEEE 802 JTC1 SC to send a status report based on material in the most recent IEEE 802 JTC1 SC agendas on behalf of IEEE 802 to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 for consideration at their meeting on 20-24 Mar 2022. The Chair& Vice Chairwill make draft versions of the report available to the EC for review and will incorporate reasonable suggestions.
Could I please have a mover and seconder?
Andrew

G’day all
You may recall that IEEE 802 sends ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 a status report for presentation (usually by Peter Yee) at the SC6 & SC6/WG1 plenary meetings. The next SC6 meeting in 20-24 March 2023, but we need to submit at least an early version of the report by 6 March 2023.
For the last few years, the EC has authorised the Chair and Vice Chair of the IEEE 802 JTC1 SC to submit a report based on the most recent IEEE 802 JTC1 SC agenda. This worked pretty well. In June 2022, the EC decided it wanted to only approve the final version, which led to some level of micro editing. I am not sure having the EC edit the document was a particularly effective use of everyone’s time (although some reasonable improvements did result). I note that SC6 indicated that they really appreciate the report in its current form.
This time around, I suggest that the EC provide pre-authorisation for the Chair and Vice Chair of the IEEE 802 JTC1 SC to:
· Develop a status report based on an abstract of the most recent JTC1 SC agenda … (work!)
· … and to submit the status report to SC6 (trust!)
· … on the condition that EC members may review the document and suggest changes (oversight!)
So, a proposed motion: Authorize the Chair & Vice Chair of IEEE 802 JTC1 SC to send a status report based on material in the most recent IEEE 802 JTC1 SC agendas on behalf of IEEE 802 to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 for consideration at their meeting on 20-24 Mar 2022. The Chair & Vice Chair will make draft versions of the report available to the EC for review and will incorporate reasonable suggestions.
