Adam Sorry about the multiple emails, but questions about your email are sparking additional questions. How many seats would be provided to IEEE 802? 1 to replace the joinme that we have now – or multiple. We currently have a total of 5 seats we purchased for annual use, and 2 additional seats that we got for the March time period as we adjust. Though I could be wrong (and I can likely get a listing if needed). The real difference may be that global toll-free and global call back is not available because that is where the IEEE corporate contract's per minute expenses for our use cases is unaffordable. It's 802's choice which way to go, of course, we are trying to improve the remote experience for our participants over join.me or any free accounts they may be using. I'm just trying to make sure 802 EC has information to make their decision.
IEEE Standards Association Sr. Director - Innovations Development & Operations Standards Products & Services: Standards Sales & Licensing, Alliance Management, Registries, Conformity Assessment, Open Source Adam Thank you for letting us know about this. The main issue I see at this point is the “Global Toll Call-in (where available)” , which we found to be limited and not address all of the various countries IEEE-SA participants are from, such as and not limited to China. However, given the larger number of seats that I would believe IEEE SA is negotiating for and the times we are in, perhaps you are getting a better deal? Also, please note the feedback I have received from within IEEE 802 is that the WG Chairs don’t want total reliance on a VOIP approach. Therefore, the ability to have true global call-in or call-back is critical. Please have the IEEE Webex Co-ordinator provide the complete list of countries that will be supported with “Global Toll Call-in (where available)”. Please note I have found getting these lists to be extremely challenging. I am essentially the webex co-ordinator for 802, so you can have that person follow-up with me. However, Event Center supports an Audio Broadcast feature which allows for up to 3000 participants... The SA accounts will have unlimited VoIP, Global Toll Call-In (where available), and Domestic (US and Canada) Call-Back.” If it will work for 802 can work with Jonathon to transition to the SA accounts or of course continue to contract for your own. FYI, staff and the BoG Platform and Infrastructure SMDC are in the process of putting in webex to replace join.me for Standards Working Group/Committee use. 802 may find it meets their needs. I will send those account participant limits and any voice calling limitations today when I get a response from the IEEE webex coordinator. PS thanks to Jonathon G for calling this motion to my attention. All, Our chair, Paul Nikolich has delegated the conduct of the EC electronic ballot on the following motion to me and approved the corresponding early close. Background Our current webex licenses terminate Aug 12, 2020. With the recent COVID situation, we have received a quote has from Cisco that would provide 802 with 5 licenses (min requirement), each license capable of supporting 1000 participants, and Global Call Back Audio for a total annual cost of $2,160. Note – this increases the total number of webex licenses 802 currently has from 4 to 5, increases the number of participants from 100 to 1000 per license, and decreases the cost from 2,577.60 to $2,160. This was compared against Zoom, the other teleconferencing tool used by 802. The best Zoom option for 802 would be the “Business” plan, which offers licenses at $200/year, with a min requirement of 10, each license capable of supporting 300 participants, and limited phone access globally (see below) for a total annual cost of $2,000. Zoom Phone access - Zoom pricing includes a POTS dial-up option, dial-in numbers are not available in all regions. Notable omissions include mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, and Thailand. Participants in those areas could access the voice by built-in VoIP, or by dialing across a border. Zoom does offer an option of dial-up numbers in all countries, but the account holder is billed on a per-minute basis and the resulting charges are prohibitive. Thank you for your prompt attention.
