Dear EC members,
In support of subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE P802.3cu Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s Operation over Single-Mode Fiber PAR for consideration at the March 2019 plenary.
Best regards,
David
[1] Draft PAR and CSD responses:
Draft PAR: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/19/ec-19-0006-00-00EC-ieee-p802-3cu-draft-par.pdf>
CSD responses: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/19/ec-19-0005-00-00EC-ieee-p802-3cu-draft-csd.pdf>
[2] Explanatory technical background material:
The continual growth of bandwidth demand has driven evolution of higher Ethernet speeds, including 100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s Ethernet. To meet this growth, ongoing advancement in optical technology enables the opportunity to develop higher density or lower cost optical interfaces using 100 Gb/s per wavelength optical signaling with greater than 500 m reach.
[3] Status of the development of the PAR:
The draft PAR and CSD responses are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the March 2019 plenary.
Since the submission deadline for the March occurs prior to the date of the March IEEE 802 EC meeting, I will pre-submit this draft PAR to NesCom on the understanding that:
[a] Any changes to the draft PAR text resulting from the Plenary will be promptly communicated to the NesCom Administrator.
[b] Should the IEEE 802.3 Working Group not approve the submission, it will be removed from the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee and NesCom agenda.
[c] Should the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee not approve the submission, it will be removed from the NesCom agenda.
