John, My question is not about a meeting participant. If you review Item# 2 from Bob’s email – it states – 2.Those who hold a passport of countries under tourist visa exemption scheme, they can enter to Thailand with the purpose of visitor, and this condition is not applicable for working such as exhibitor, organizer, speaker etc. Note – SPEAKER So what is the definition of speaker? Anyone giving a presentation at the conference? Somebody who is being compensated to speak? Taking it to level of extremeness – anyone who speaks period? Such as introducing themselves and declares employ / affiliation? I was fine until bob’s email this morning – which only caused me confusion. - Attending at exhibition or trade shows.
- Visiting business or attending business meetings.
- Attending special or academic lectures.
- Attending lectures at technical trainings or seminars.
- Purchasing goods at trade shows.
Since 802 folk are participants (first bullet), we are exempt. Note: IETF is meeting the week before we are, and they are recognized on the TCEB web as a MICE event: https://www.businesseventsthailand.com/en. MICE: “Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exibitions”: http://www.micecapabilities.com/mice/uploads/attachments/Introduction_to_MICE_2560.pdf, see page 3. I hope this helps. John John Notor President/Chief Technologist Notor Research KM6TUX Bob This email confuses me - it now seems to imply that a speaker needs a visa. So if I give a presentation at the conference in my task force or industry connections - does this mean I need a visa? John Steve and all
I just got this from the Thai government:
--------------------------------- Please find below information regarding visa to Thailand.
1. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed all embassies and consulates worldwide about our event. Please refer to the date "9/10/2018" in order to apply for a visa to Thailand.
2.Those who hold a passport of countries under tourist visa exemption scheme, they can enter to Thailand with the purpose of visitor, and this condition is not applicable for working such as exhibitor, organizer, speaker etc.
Under this condition those who intend to only attend the conference or seminar (not working, not exhibiting, not being speaker or not organizing the event) can enter to Thailand as visitor with tourist visa exemption scheme.
3. Those, who hold a passport of countries requiring a visa to enter Thailand as visitor, still need to apply for a visa. They can refer to the given date and the embassy will facilitate to issue an appropriate visa.
Your delegate can attach our welcome message with application letter or hold it when entering to Thailand. This will be a proof that Royal Thai Government is supporting your event.
Hope this information is helpful. Thanking you all for your patience. -------------------------------------------
Best
Bob

We just got the signed commitment/acknowledgement doc back from IEEE. The was submitted yesterday to the TCEB along with a follow-up on the status of the embassy code and your question on tourist visas. As of this morning there was no response, but they are usually good about getting back so I remain hopeful we will have a bit more info in the next couple of days.
Cheers

Bob,
Do we expect to have a document soon stating that our meeting qualifies for use of a Tourist Visa?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi all
Making good progress on securing endorsed event status for the upcoming plenary. The TCEB has indicated they will support our meeting pending completion of one last set of paperwork. We should have that posting well in advance of the plenary. Likewise, I will post some recent experiences, in the next week or so, on what to expect on entering the country. My hope is that will ease some of the concerns that some of our people have.
