Re: [802SEC] Thailand Visa Info
Hi Steve
I am not telling you anything other than what the options are and
offering to relate some recent experiences if that will help make you
feel more comfortable. How you want to proceed from there is up to
you.
Cheers

Hi Bob,
That sounds like a flip, non-answer. Im not sure which of the two you are
trying to tell me:
- Are you trying to tell me that I should travel as though I am a
tourist and Ill (probably) get away with it;
- Or are you trying to tell me that you are confident that if I tick
Meetingor Conventionon the landing card, you are confident that the rules
that would allow me to enter under the tourist visa exemption rules will
apply?
If you are telling me the first, then yes, I would make a personal
decision to reject that course and follow the rules. Whether the second
statement is true or not is what I have been trying to ascertain for a
month, and knowing whether that second statement is true is really the
only answer I care about getting.

Steve

Hi Steve
It is up to you. I can give you no guidance on what is a personal
decision nor can I give you any assurances You can make it easy or
make complicated. I personally opt for easy. The airport visas make
no mention of tourism or business so just get a visa at the
airport. We had an interim there a couple of years ago and no one
had a problem entering the country including me. I do not remember
specifics other than it was totally uneventful I will try and get
you a couple of more personal experiences if that will make you feel any
more comfortable.
Sorry, that is the best I can do. If it makes you feel better bring a
copy of your registration and get an invite letter from 802.
Best
Bob

- Hi Bob,
- This is one of many things I have located offering different views on
whether I need a visa for Thailand. The worry I have about this table is
that the column heading where I find the USA listed is Tourist Visa
Exemption Scheme. There is no doubt that if I was traveling to Thailand
with the purpose of my visit being tourism, I would not need a visa.
Tourism, in my mind, would be taking a vacation during time away from my
job where my employer is not paying me for what I am doing while in
Thailand, which is surely not the case.
- I would appreciate some clear guidance on what I can say truthfully
on entrance to Thailand that can be assured will be considered as a
purpose of travel not requiring a visa. Here, it is confusing. I will
need to tick one of the boxes on the landing card:
- Looking at what they ask on the Thailand landing card:
- It says Purpose of Visit must be tourism if you are using
Free
Visa-Exempt Stay,
Visa
on Arrival,
Single
Entry Tourist Visa or
Multiple
Entry Tourist Visa. Otherwise you might be rejected to enter the
country.
- Interestingly, tourismisnt one of the tick boxes on the landing card.
There, you need to pick one of Holiday, Business, Education, Employment,
Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition, Sports, Medical &
Wellness, Transit, or Others.
-
- I am sure that I could tick Holidayon the landing card and enter
without a visa, but I believe that would be untruthful.
- Can you provide assurance that if I tick Meetingor Conventionon the
landing card, that as a US citizen I can enter without a visa?
- I find some things online that it is a bad idea to tick Businessor
Employmentto enter without a visa and work permit, but Meetingor
Conventionwould be reasonably honest representation of the purpose of
travel.

- Steve

- Hi All-
- Please distribute the attached to your groups. As you can see, for ~99.9% of the planet's population, getting into Thailand is not a big deal. You can go right in on a 30 tourist declaration or you can get a visa at the airport for the smaller group that may need to do that.
