G’day all Re: item 8.0311 I am unable to attend the EC meeting today but want to provide a brief explanation of the LS referenced by this motion. The China NB sent a LS to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 in May 2017 asserting that IEEE 802’s LS (sent in March 2017, but only published by SC6 in May 2017) in relation to the proposed Security Ad Hoc in SC6 violated the
JTC1 Directives. They also asserted that IEEE 802 had done a variety of other bad things. You can be assured that IEEE 802 did nothing inappropriate The IEEE 802 JTC1 SC has developed a reply LS that mostly focused on the China NB’s allegation that IEEE 802 violated the JTC1 Directives. However, IEEE-SA staff have asked that it not be sent until they have
had a chance to resolve the issue directly with ISO staff. The motion gives the EC Chair to make the decision after 31 July 2017 on whether the LS is actually sent, on the advice of IEEE-SA staff (Jodi Haasz in this case). Hope that helps … Andrew From: ***** IEEE 802 Executive Committee List ***** [mailto:STDS-802-SEC@ieee.org]
