Re: [802SEC] 802.15 responses to comments received on the 15.4 Revision PAR
Hi Jon
To put this all in context., the scope of 15.4-2015 is:
- This standard defines the physical layer (PHY) and
medium
access control (MAC) sublayer specifications
for low-data-rate wireless connectivity with fixed, portable, and
moving devices with no battery or very
limited battery consumption requirements. In addition, the standard
provides modes that allow for precision
ranging. PHYs are defined for devices operating
various license-free bands
in a variety of geographic
regions.
The scope of this revision makes 2 changes. It corrects medum to
media and deletes "various license free bands" from the last
sentence (both highlighted in red). The result (which does indeed reflect
reality) is:
- This standard defines the physical layer (PHY) and

Rebuttal comment to 802.15.4 Revision:
802.11 comment:
5.2 adding â??and otherâ?? seems to change the scope
significantly. The change seems to allow any band.
Suggest to delete â??and otherâ?? from the scope or alternatively
identify what are the â??other bandsâ??.
802.15 Response:
Accept-in-principle; delete â??operating in various license-exempt and
other bandsâ?? resulting in â??PHYs are defined for devices operating in
a variety of geographic regions.â??
802.11 Rebuttal:
The response does not address the concern of including â??Any
bandâ??. We would like to not have the scope expand without
definition or bounds. The phrase â??devices operating in a variety of
geographic regionsâ?? does not provide any information.

Jon
