[802SEC] 802.15.4t PAR and CSD for consideration in November
Greetings all--
In compliance with the 30 day rule, you will find attached a PAR and CSD
for a high(er) data rate amendment to IEEE Std. 802.15.4 for
consideration and approval at the November Plenary.
When the original 15.4 standard was published in 2003, the performance of
embedded microcomputers and other sources and sinks of data was such that
the 250 kb/s raw data rate of its 2450 MHz O-QPSK PHY was considered to
be the highest rate practically attainable as well as more than
sufficient to support typical monitoring and control traffic and meta
data in what we now call the Internet of Things (IoT).
In today's world, however, there is growing need for higher data rates
while, at the same time, supporting backward compatibility and continuing
to reduce the energy consumption of 15.4 devices even further. This
amendment is designed to do that with a target data rate of 2Mbps.
Achieving that objective will help 15.4 maintain its leadership
position.
The changes to 5.2.a (scope of Standard) and 5.4 (Purpose), that appear
in this PAR, reflect the scope and purpose contained in the nearly
complete15.4 Revision.
Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.
Regards
Bob
