Re: [802SEC] Response to comments on IEEE 802.3 PARs

David,

FYI, the "Wave" terminology (“for 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2 “)  is no longer in use by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Updated language would be

“for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ac Release 1 and Release 2”

or simply " for 802.11ac"

Thanks,

Dorothy

Subject: [802SEC] Response to comments on IEEE 802.3 PARs

Dear EC members,

We received one comment in respect to the IEEE P802.3bz 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s Ethernet draft PAR from Paul Nikolich which read 'My comments on the draft 2.5/5 Gbps PAR are as follows: 1) 5.5 Need for the Project.  Please consider quantifying the 'growing needs' (e.g., up to YYY Gbps) you assume for an 802.11ac based enterprise wireless access point in this section.  I looked to see if this was defined in the CSD, but did not find it there either.'

Our response to the comment is add the text '.. that approach 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s for 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2 respectively' to the end of the first sentence of item 5.5 'Need for the Project'.

Based on this the full text for this item will then read 'There is a need for greater than 1 Gb/s Ethernet connectivity over structured twisted pair wiring to serve existing and growing needs of IEEE 802.11ac based enterprise wireless access points that approach 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s for 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2 respectively.  Availability of 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s signaling technologies enables interconnect solutions for enterprise wireless access points to switch applications to be served over structured Cat5e or better twisted pair cabling.'.

An updated IEEE P802.3bz draft PAR showing this change, and a few other changes, is attached.

Best regards,

  David
