[802SEC] IEEE P802.3bm draft PAR modification and updated 5 Criteria - Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Operation Over Fiber Optic Cables
Dear EC members,
In support of subclause 10.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the PAR modification request for IEEE P802.3bm Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Operation Over Fiber Optic Cables for consideration at the March 2013 plenary.
Best regards,
David
[1] Draft PAR modification and updated 5C:
Draft PAR modification: <http://www.ieee802.org/3/bm/public/jan13/P802_3bm_PAR_0113.pdf>
Draft updated 5C: <http://www.ieee802.org/3/bm/P8023bm_5Criteria_1112.pdf>
[2] Explanatory technical background material:
This PAR modification adds Energy-efficient Ethernet support for both 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s operation over fiber optic cables to the scope of this project.
[3] Work plan for the development of managed object definitions:
The project will include a protocol independent specification of managed objects with SNMP management capability to be provided in the future by an amendment to IEEE Std 802.3.1-2011 Ethernet MIBs.
[4] Status of the development of the PAR:
The draft updated 5C were approved by the IEEE 802.3 Working Group at the November 2012 Plenary, the PAR modification PAR is pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the March 2013 plenary.
Since the submission deadline for the April NesCom Continuous Processing meeting (15th March) occurs prior to the date of the March IEEE 802 EC meeting, I will pre-submit this draft PAR to NesCom on the understanding that:
[a] Any changes to the draft PAR text resulting from the Plenary will be promptly communicated to the NesCom Administrator.
[b] Should the IEEE 802.3 Working Group not approve the submission, it will be removed from the IEEE 802 Executive Committee and NesCom agenda.
[c] Should the IEEE 802 Executive Committee not approve the submission, it will be removed from the NesCom agenda.
