[802SEC] IEEE P802.3bp draft PAR and 5 Criteria - Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 100 Gb/s Operation Over Backplanes and Copper Cables
Dear EC members,
In support of subclause 11.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE P802.3bp Amendment Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 1 Gb/s Operation over Fewer than Three Twisted Pair Copper Cable PAR for consideration at the November 2012 plenary.
Best regards,
David
[1] Draft PAR and 5C:
Draft PAR <http://ieee802.org/3/RTPGE/P802_3bp_PAR.pdf>
Draft 5C <http://ieee802.org/3/RTPGE/5C_0912.pdf>
[2] Explanatory technical background material:
Adoption of Ethernet into new market areas in automotive, industrial controls and automation, transportation (aircraft, railway and heavy trucks) has generated a need for a 1 Gb/s solution that will operate over fewer than three twisted pair copper cables over a lower-performance channel as well as other applications, such as carbon footprint sensitive applications, that will benefit by a reduction in the number of wire pairs and magnetics. IEEE Std 802.3 does not currently support 1 Gb/s operation over fewer than four pairs of twisted copper cable.
[3] Work plan for the development of managed object definitions:
The project will include a protocol independent specification of managed objects with SNMP management capability to be provided in the future by an amendment to IEEE Std 802.3.1-2011 Ethernet MIBs.
[4] Status of the development of the PAR:
The PAR and 5C drafts are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the November Plenary. Since the submission deadline for the December NesCom meeting (15th October) occurs prior to the date of the November IEEE 802 EC meeting, I will pre-submit this draft PAR to NesCom on the understanding that:
[a] Any changes to the draft PAR text resulting from the Plenary will be promptly communicated to the NesCom Administrator.
[b] Should the IEEE 802.3 Working Group not approve the submission, it will be removed from the IEEE 802 Executive Committee and NesCom agenda.
[c] Should the IEEE 802 Executive Committee not approve the submission, it will be removed from the NesCom agenda.
