All feedback is welcome.
It helps in discussion and often helps us make sure
what we have in the letter actually says what we think it does.
Thanks for your comments,
Jon

Dear Pat,
Thanks for the note, sorry I wasted the EC's time
unnecessarily.
Sincerely,

Very
True John. Sorry, I was trying to say that in addition to
Universities, there are other avenues to address i.e. Research Centers,
Hospitals, Gov't agencies that
could
be potential partners for sponsorship. and in some cases, many are in
working relationships with partners of like communities in other
countries
where
one country is unable to fully support financial efforts, but 2 could.
I didn't mean to suggest changing the method of local workshops etc, got
carried away as it were.
Should
have stayed with the advice of a mentor, "Less is
more."
Sincerely,

Your
response below is a bit unclear.
Please
note per the draft
Invitations
to separate sponsor hospitality suites and/or product showcases during the
IEEE 802 Plenary Session are allowed provided they are clearly NOT a part of
the IEEE 802 Plenary Session and flyers to announce those sponsor events may
be displayed on information tables. In addition, the 802 community is
willing to work with you on providing subject matter experts at no charge
should you wish to produce a local workshop on 802 Standards either just
before or just after the Plenary
Session.
I
was not advocating highlighting the separate sponsor hospitality suites / or
product showcases option any more than is already noted. I was
advocating highlighting the educational opportunities, either through the
University program or tutorial sessions, where product pitches / mktg /
advertising for companies is not allowed.
Re:
research centers. Some countries not only work through Universities,
Hospitals, stand alone or adjoining research centers, Gov't Agencies, and
often
these
same institutions partner with other countries themselves in like
organizations. This could potentially allow for multiple countries to
participate in funding, when some
are
more able to on a financial level. I believe that the effect will be
Plenaries with increased attendance, shared funding, and allow for host
countries companies to show what they are doing, in advertising
tables, while meeting with International Companies on specific 802
family interests. Tutorials may become a combination of sharing knowledge
from both
802
and the host(s) countries at so many levels not always done today at
Plenaries.

I
believe Nancy’s point is adjacent to another discussion that we had,
regarding putting some of the possible benefits into the letter. I
think it would be beneficial to list the University program in the letter,
as well as other possible educational (tutorial)
activities.
Just
a thought, since some countries sponsor events through academic Universities
and or research centers, can that be another avenue to appeal
to?

Attached we (Buzz and I) have accepted most of your
suggestions,
but I believe that
we will have better opportunities if we allow our sponsor to have co-located
events (same city, possibly same hotel) that they could inform our
membership of on an information table (limited advertising if you
will).
Does the attached
get us closer to acceptable?

When we concluded
our meeting in July, we left with the idea that the 802 EC had wanted to
give more feedback on the attached Invitation
letter.
I would ask for
your input.
If you would
please let me know your feedback, I would like to start the Letter ballot
such that it could conclude on Oct 8th...I would need to start the letter
ballot on Sept 28th. So if I can have all your feedback by Sept
27th, I will send the updated file out for your final approval, and we can
discuss the results of the letter ballot on our Oct 9th Call. (AOB
section).
Thank you for your
feedback.
