[802SEC] IEEE P802.3bn draft PAR and 5 Criteria - Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks Protocol over Coax Networks
Dear EC members,
In support of subclause 12.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE P802.3bn Amendment Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks Protocol over Coax Networks PAR for consideration at the July 2012 plenary.
Best regards,
David
[1] Draft PAR and 5C:
Draft PAR <http://www.ieee802.org/3/epoc/P802_3bn_PAR_170512.pdf>
Draft 5C <http://www.ieee802.org/3/epoc/EPoC_5Criteria_draft_0516.pdf>
[2] Explanatory technical background material:
The project is applicable to environments served with hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) networks. This project would allow the expansion of the addressable Ethernet market in the access space by running the Ethernet Passive
Optical Networks (EPON) protocol over Coax. The project enables service providers to offer EPON services over HFC networks, which currently can only be provided on fiber network
[3] Work plan for the development of managed object definitions:
The project will include a protocol independent specification of managed objects with SNMP management capability to be provided in the future by an amendment to IEEE Std 802.3.1-2011 Ethernet MIBs.
[4] Status of the development of the PAR:
The PAR and 5C were approved by the IEEE 802.3 EPON Protocol over a Coax (EPoC) PHY Study Group at the May 2012 IEEE 802.3 interim meeting series. Since the submission deadline for the August NesCom meeting occurs on Friday 20th July, the day of the IEEE 802 closing EC meeting, I will submit the PAR that day assuming approval by the EC.
