Re: [802SEC] ++++ EC Ballot to approve P802.11s press release ++++
Bruce-
The wording of this particular paragraph presumes the suitability of
products, not standards for use in a particularly demanding applications
space. We don't do devices, therefore we are in no position to pass
judgment on device capability. These applications spaces place demands
on products that are far outside the scope of 802.11
IEEE 802.11s-capable mesh devices are highly suited for applications
requiring resilience and redundancy (smart grid, industrial
communication, and public safety), rapid deployment (events), or
peer-to-peer communication (home networks, content-sharing, gaming).
I would suggest rewording to something like:
Addition of IEEE 802.11s-capabilties improves 802.11's suitability
for applications requiring resilience and redundancy (smart grid,
industrial communication, and public safety), rapid deployment
(events), or peer-to-peer communication (home networks,
content-sharing, gaming).
I'll vote APPROVE (contingent on approval, of course*) if you make an
editorial change to fix this problem. (Or you could wait until after the
SASB meeting when I won't have a vote.)
Best regards,
Geoff

Dear EC members,
In anticipation of IEEE P802.11s (Mesh Networking) being approved for publication by SASB this weekend I am requesting approval of a press release associated with the event.
During its July meeting WG11 developed a draft press release that was subsequently edited by Karen McCabe and approved by the working group.
I'm now seeking EC approval to publish the press release which can be found here:

Paul has delegated the conduct of the EC electronic ballot on the following motion to me. I am announcing the possibility of an 'early close' to this ballot (see below).
Best regards,

Motion
======
The EC supports the IEEE P802.11s press release with editorial changes as deemed necessary.
Move: Bruce Kraemer
Second: Jon Rosdahl
Start of ballot: Tuesday 6th September 2011
Close of ballot: Friday 16th September 2011, 11:59PM AOE
Early close: As required in subclause 4.1.2.2 'Electronic Balloting' of the IEEE project 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Operations Manual, this is notice that, to ensure the release is provided in a timely manner, this ballot may close early once sufficient responses are received to clearly decide a matter.
