Dear EC members, Thank you for all your feedback - based on this feedback please find attached an updated version of the press release - as well as compare version to show the changes from the previously circulated version. In particular we have re-written the first two paragraphs - to mirror what we used in the past for similar release such as the one of IEEE P802.3bg. I hope to open the EC ballot shortly. Aimed at expanding backplane and short-reach infrastructures needed to support the next generation of highrate Ethernet speeds, the group will define physical layers (PHYs) for 100 Gb/s Ethernet operations in electronic equipment over backplanes and copper cable assemblies. When finalized, the new specifications will help facilitate the development and delivery of lower-cost, higher density 100Gb/s solutions.
