[802SEC] IEEE CS History Committee project on 802 standards--looking for feedback

Dear EC members,

The IEEE Computer Society History Committee is interested in developing a "802 history brochure"--see below. I'll set aside a few minutes at the opening EC meeting next week to discuss this and attempt to provide an 802-wide response, but if you have immediate feedback for Anne and Dave Walden, please feel free to contact them at your convenience.

Regards,

--Paul

Subject: IEEE CS History Committee project on 802 standards

Paul,

I'm contacting you about a proposed IEEE CS History Committee to produce a commemorative overview of the 802 standards history -cover broadly all of 802, 802.3 in more detail, and
802.11 in some detail as well. The idea would be to develop a brochure with narrative history based on interviews and available documents.

The project has been on the back burner for some time, but this year's History Committee Chair Dave Walden is interested in moving it forward. He's been in touch with Steve Diamond and Gary Robinson.
I also suggested contacting you and Art Astrin.

Before plowing ahead, Dave wants to make certain the 802 committee would not object to such work. He asked me if someone in the IEEE 802 group would be offended if an
outsider like him gets involved in summarizing and commemorating the history of 802.3 and thus to some extent 802.
I didn't think so, but offered to reach out to you to gauge your community's reaction.

Thanks,
Anne Marie
