Re: [802SEC] +++++ EC Ballot on P802.11z press release +++++
Geoff,
Thanks for the comments. I'll review the formatting with Karen and see if we can reduce technical confusion. The behavior of compliant devices is such that the STA to STA connection time slot is administered by the AP even though traffic does not flow thru the AP.

Bruce-
I'm willing to support a press release and so I will vote YES
HOWEVER, I strongly feel that this one "needs work" in two areas
First area: The opening paragraph reads like a legal notice, not like a press release. It should at least be constructed so that an editor can easily and obviously prune it down for publication. I suggest the following:
PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA, 10 June 2011 - The IEEE today announced that it has published IEEE Std 802.11z, Wireless LAN: Extensions to Direct Link Setup.
The full, formal designation of the standard is: IEEE Std 802.11z(tm)- 2011, Standard for Information Technology-Telecommunications and Information Exchange between systems-Local and Metropolitan networks-Specific requirements-Part 11: Wireless LAN Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) specifications: Extensions to Direct Link Setup.
Please not that the original text is incorrect in that it says:
IEEE 802.11z(tm)- 2011
Whereas, I believe that by convention, it should say:
IEEE Std 802.11z(tm)- 2011
2nd area:
I find the technical explanation to be quite confusing. It seems to imply that the technology provides a (tunneled) path through the access point but not going up the backbone to a router and back but it also seems to imply that it reduces the number of air hops from two. (That would imply a direct STA - STA connection similar to an ad hoc network.)
Therefore I believe some editorial work is in order to make things clearer.
Good luck,
Geoff

Dear EC members,
IEEE P802.11z (Direct Link Setup) has been published and during its May meeting WG11 developed a draft press release that was subsequently reviewed and edited by Karen McCabe.
I'm now seeking EC approval to publish the press release.
The document is attached but I'm also providing the link to the document:

Paul has delegated the conduct of the EC electronic ballot on the following motion to me. I am announcing the possibility of an 'early close' to this ballot (see below).
Best regards,
Bruce
Motion
======
The EC supports the IEEE P802.11z press release with editorial changes as deemed necessary.
Move: Bruce Kraemer
Second: Jon Rosdahl
Start of ballot: Sunday 12th June
Close of ballot: Wednesday 22th June 11:59PM AOE
Early close: As required in subclause 4.1.2.2 'Electronic Balloting' of the IEEE project 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Operations Manual, this is notice that, to ensure the release is provided in a timely manner, this ballot may close early once sufficient responses are received to clearly decide a matter.
