Re: [802SEC] New IEEE Standards Store

Since WG Chairs are looking at their standards, I thought I'd try a few other searches:

2030 -- turned up a draft, but no way to tell what draft number

Smart Grid -- produced P2030 and 1175-2010, the second makes no sense

Floating point -- produced mostly good hits

Environmental -- produced a long and seemingly good list (mostly Stds with "environmental" in the title, but some red herrings

Backplane -- some good, some questionable (NuBus, FutureBus, were there, but I don't think of 1394 as a backplane standard). It didn't pull up 802.3 (802.3ap, etc.) where we define backplane Ethernet.
802.3ap only pulled up 802.3-2005 because it was an amendment merged in the 2008 revision.

Point of care -- produced the 1073 and 11073 standards as expected, but I can't judge completeness or accuracy of the lists

Broadband -- produced lost of 802.16, also 802.22 and 802.20, 1901 and its related standards, but also some C63 and 377 standards for grid communications.

I found a number of "why does it work that way" type of negatives (some probably redundant with Geoff's)

It is bad that superceded and withdrawn standards are sometimes at the top of the list on an initial search. The current standard should always be listed first but seems to typically listed last.

It is inconsistent in that using the search box will produce superceded and withdrawn standards but won't produce a superceded amendment then when show all versions is clicked, there is no indication of which amendments are superceded and which are not. It lists 802.3-2002 as 802.3-2002-2002.

Why does the search box not work like most search engines? It seemed to look for an exact match by default (backplane Ethernet produced no hits, yet power line communications produced lost of hits)

Bob,

Thanks--any feedback is welcome. I expect that Karen McCabe or one of her
people will follow up with you to get the details.

Keep that feedback coming folks!

Regards,
