Re: [802SEC] Singapore plenary session tutorials

Once upon a time when this issue came up in the distant past we decided that tutorials were not actually a "formal part of the meeting" and thus (not unlike the social) we could invite people to attend a tutorial without going through the rigmarole of a motion in the EC.

We usually set the criteria at whether or not attendance was taken.

I am OK with letting non-paying guests into tutorials
but not evening meetings of working group or task groups.

That leaves undefined the issue of a "Call for Interest"
I know that in a 802.3 CFI evening session we do take a head count but do not pass an attendance book or give attendance credit. So I would be OK with local (non-paying) observers for any of those we might have
if only as a customer development decision if nothing else.

Subject: [802SEC] Singapore plenary session tutorials

Folks,

I'm following up on Item (9) below:

"use EC reflector to determine if there is consensus to make the Singapore plenary session tutorial slots open to interested parties at no charge"

This was just an idea that popped into my head during the telecon, but I think it's worth considering. It would help connect us to the local technical community, acting as a kind of extension of the Saturday workshop. The marginal cost to us would be about zero, I think. We would lose out on some revenue that might have been generated from folks who would have attended only the tutorials, but I think it would be a good investment. I suppose another risk is related to the additional uncertainty regarding the number of seats we need. However, I suppose we have sufficient space to handle that.

So, I support the idea. What about you?

Roger
