I agree that it is a wonderful thing.

I am disappointed that there wasn't even any mention of 10BASE-Te, which 
actually may have the greatest energy saving potential of the entire 
standard, at least in the short run.  The 10BASE-T version is different 
from the higher speed versions in that you don't have to have both ends 
be the "energy efficient" version to get the energy advantage.  
10BASE-Te- is unilaterally more energy efficient and fully compatible 
with installed multispeed Ethernet. 10BASE-T doesn't have a lot of 
glamor these days or marketing push but it still is fast enough to stay 
out of the way for most residential systems.  That matches the ambitions 
of DoE which is to get energy saving by a large number of instances of a 
small savings.
