All,
Based on Geoff's comments below, as well as a number of comments I
received off-line, Mike has updated the draft press release to draft D1.1
which is attached. For reference I've also attached a D1.0 to D1.1 compare.
I hope this will address everybody's comments.
Thanks and best regards,
David

Energy-efficient Ethernet approval press release
David-
I think it needs quite a bit of work. More than I can do at the moment.
Thus my vote for the time being is:
DISAPPROVE
I have no objection in principle to an 802.3az press release.
I would not be willing to see this one go out.
For example: "fully deployed" would lead the public to believe that the
full benefit will be received by 2013. Nothing could be further from the
truth. Energy reduction only occurs when both ends of an existing link
are replaced. I have no reason to believe that the market will have
turned over all that equipment by 2013.
Further, it implies that the most significant energy savings s will
during the run-up to full deployment. Quite the opposite is the case.

Dear EC members,
The IEEE-SA has prepared a press release in anticipation of the approval
of IEEE P802.3az Energy-efficient Ethernet at the upcoming IEEE-SA
Standards Board meeting on Thursday 30th September. This press release
will therefore be released contingent upon the IEEE-SA Standards Board
actually voting to approve the standard that morning. As the development
of this press release was at the request of the Task Force Chair and
myself I'm seeking EC approval.
Paul has delegated the conduct of the EC electronic ballot on the
following motion to me.
Please note that there are a number of 'additional quotes' appended to
the draft release from end users. Since this email ballot process may
result in a change to the content of release, the appending of each
quote to the actual release is pending final approval from the sources
once they can review the final release. This is on the basis that they
only have the ability to approve the appending of their quotes as is.
They will not be able to make any further changes or additions to their
quotes - or to the release itself. If they choose not to provide
approval, due for example to a change in the release during this ballot,
their quote will simply not be included. To allow maximum time for
process I am announcing the possibility of an 'early close' to this
ballot (see below).
Best regards,
David
Motion
======
The EC supports the IEEE P802.3az Energy-efficient Ethernet press
release, to be released contingent upon the IEEE-SA Standards Board
voting to approve the IEEE P802.3az draft as an IEEE Standard, with
editorial changes as deemed necessary.
Move: David Law
Second: Tony Jeffree
Start of ballot: Wednesday 22nd September
Close of ballot: Saturday 2nd October, 11:59PM AOE
Early close: As required in subclause 4.1.2.2 'Electronic Balloting' of
the IEEE project 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Operations
Manual, this is notice that, to ensure the release is provided in a
timely manner, this ballot may close early once sufficient responses are
received to clearly decide a matter.
