Re: [802SEC] +++ 10-day EC Email Ballot +++ Exec Secretary March T&L Funding

Pat

While it is true that employers and affiliations change, in this case,
the endorsement letter was signed by Buzz. I can only assume that Buzz
has not terminated himself.

I know that other EC members have had to cover a meeting's expenses out
of their own pocket due to changes in support/affiliation. In all those
cases, they member covered the expense without requesting money from the EC.

These are tough times. I think all of us would benefit from having part
of our travel expenses offset. I know that my company is cost conscious
at this time and all my travel expenditures have to be approved in advance.

I am OK with paying for it if:
1) There is a clear and fair method for determining who should get the
money.
2) There is a process for reviewing and approving expenditures.

I am concerned only with fairness and process, not with the specifics of
this situation (or the persons involved).

By approving this, we are unavoidably setting precedent. Witness the
comment that we have paid for others in the past (e.g., Arnie), when
that payment was explicitly stated as not setting precedent.
Nevertheless, it has set a precedent in our minds.

If we are going to do that, we should be responsible with our member's
money (it is theirs, after all, not ours).
