Paul,
This is the current status of the standards requiring maintenance this year. Any Recommendations contained here will be considered by RevCom at their 8 December meeting. Please respond with your plan of action for any standards that do not contain a Recommendation (see the initial email in this chain for detailed instructions). Any standards for which no action is taken will be placed on the administrative withdrawal list.
Thanks,
Moira

Paul,
This is a friendly reminder of the standards requiring maintenance this year. Please see the forwarded message below for further instructions.
You may already have taken action on some standards that required maintenance this year; the following are currently listed as still requiring action by 19 October 2009:
802.1D-2004 IEEE Standard for Local and metropolitan area networks: Media Access Control (MAC) Bridges
802.1F-1993 (R2004) IEEE Standards for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks: Common Definitions and Procedures for IEEE 802 Management Information
802.16.2-2004 Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Recommended Practice for Coexistence of Fixed Broadband Wireless Access Systems
802.16/Conformance03-2004 IEEE Standard for Conformance to IEEE Standard 802.16 - Part 3: Radio Conformance Tests (RCT) for 10-66 GHz WirelessMAN-SCT Air Interface
802.17-2004 IEEE Standard for Information Technology - Telecommunications and Information Exchange Between Systems - Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Specific Requirements - Part 17: Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) Access Method and Physical Layer Specifications

Subject: IEEE Standards Due for Maintenance in 2009 - C/LM

10 March 2009
Paul Nikolich,
C/LM has some standards that are due for a 5-year maintenance action by the end of 2009. In accordance with the IEEE-SA Standards Board Operations Manual, Section 9, standards are approved for five years and the Sponsor is required to take a maintenance action by the end of that period. The following are your options:
a) reaffirm
b) revise
c) extend
d) withdraw
You can find more information about these options at http://standards.ieee.org/guides/opman/sect9.html
Please notify me of your intended action by 19 October 2009, the submittal deadline for the December 2009 Standards Board Meeting Series. If I do not receive a response, the standards in question will be placed on the agenda for administrative withdrawal.
If the Sponsor chooses to revise or reaffirm the standard but will not be able to complete the process by the October submittal deadline, please send me an email to a) request an extension of the existing standard and b) provide information about the actions that are being taken. Please also provide estimates for when the reaffirmation will be submitted or, in case of revision, when the PAR will be submitted and when you anticipate completing the revision project.
If there is no further interest in a standard and the Sponsor wishes it to be withdrawn, no ballot is required. The standard will be administratively withdrawn in December 2009. (Please notify me if the Sponsor decides that a standard should be withdrawn. Also, please note that standards that have been administratively withdrawn can no longer be reinstated via reaffirmation. In order to reinstate an administratively withdrawn standard, a revision project has to be initiated, beginning with a PAR.)
The standards in question are:
802.1D-2004 IEEE Standard for Local and metropolitan area networks: Media Access Control (MAC) Bridges
802.1F-1993 (R2004) IEEE Standards for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks: Common Definitions and Procedures for IEEE 802 Management Information
***802.2-1989 (R2003) IEEE Standard for Information Technology - Telecommunications and Information Exchange Between Systems - Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Specific Requirements - Part 2: Logical Link Control
[Also: 802.2a-1993 (R2003); 802.2b-1993 (R2003); 802.2c-1997(R2003); 802.2d-1993 (R2003); 802.2e-1993 (R2003); 802.2f-1997 (R2003); 802.2h-1997 (R2003)]
Sponsor requests an extension until December 2010 to reaffirm. The reason for the extension request is that 802.2 is a necessary standard in the implementation of 802 conformant products and services. We (802) are investigating what needs to be done to stabilize at the ISO/IEC JTC1 level.
Recommendation: Extend until December 2010.
802.15.2-2003 IEEE Recommended Practice for Information Technology - Telecommunications and Information Exchange Between Systems - Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Specific Requirements - Part 15.2: Coexistence of Wireless Personal Area Networks with Other Wireless Devices Operating in Unlicensed Frequency Bands
802.16.2-2004 Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Recommended Practice for Coexistence of Fixed Broadband Wireless Access Systems
802.16/Conformance03-2004 IEEE Standard for Conformance to IEEE Standard 802.16 - Part 3: Radio Conformance Tests (RCT) for 10-66 GHz WirelessMAN-SCT Air Interface
802.17-2004 IEEE Standard for Information Technology - Telecommunications and Information Exchange Between Systems - Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Specific Requirements - Part 17: Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) Access Method and Physical Layer Specifications
[Also 802.17a-2004]
[***To be considered at the March RevCom meeting.]
