Dear EC Members, I received this note from the Computer Society Standards Activitie Board (CS-SAB) last week regarding the SAB press release policy (which I did not know existed.) In the future, please refer to this policy when preparing any releases that you wish to issue through the CS-SAB. Regards, --Paul Nikolich ----- Original Message ----- From: John Daniel To: sab2005@COMPUTER.ORG Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 1:36 PM Subject: SAB Press Release Policy Greetings, I hope this finds everyone well and that you all had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. I am writing to address an issue that was recently brought to my attention. Cadence Design Systems issued a Press Release on the sponsor ballot results for the proposed IEEE standard P1647 on November 14, 2005. The Press Release was issued solely on company prerogative and not as an official IEEE Press Release, nor did it follow the IEEE-CS SAB PR process. The Press Release has generated strife among DASC members by inclusion of a paragraph which describes balloting group representation by affiliation rather than by the normal classes of individuals. To minimize future public misinterpretations, Sponsors should be proactive in their publicity. Please use the official PR process for press releases, and not release detailed affiliation information to outside interests. A lack of official publicity usually results in someone else filling the void with misinterpretations. The SAB Press Release Process is attached for your information. Please also feel free to contact John Harauz (j.harauz@sympatico.ca) , the SAB member whose duties include marketing and support of publicity initiatives. Thank you, Susan K. (Kathy) Land IEEE CS VP for Standards Activities ---------- This email is sent from the 802 Executive Committee email reflector. This list is maintained by Listserv.
