Re: [802SEC] WG and TAG opening plenary meeting presentations
What the IETF does is primarily to have a new member training on Sunday afternoon and to have training material on its website. At least this means that most people (everyone but the people conducting the training) are only asked to show up on Sunday once.
For ongoing organizational updates to members, they have an operations and administration plenary on Wednesday evening (some of what they do in the evening would be similar to the officer report part of our opening plenary but they also have about 45 minutes for open mike when people can come to the mike and raise organizational issues.
Thursday evening they have a technical plenary which has its own open mike session. Some of what they do there is accomplished by us in tutorial sessions.

Pat

<snip> Perhaps we should consider learning and
adapting from IETF on how they orient new members.
