Re: [802SEC] Tutorial List for July Plenary in San Francisco
Roger, Thanx for the applause. We wanted to get this out because it filled up so early on. First-Come-First-Served is not our only rule, there is room for judgements about the greater-good for all 802 attendees, and the fairness rule which says that no WG should have a second slot guaranteed before other groups have had a chance for at least one, unless they can justify having 2 under the greater-good rule. So I would expect that any later requests arriving before the deadline will be reviewed and some aditional options considered: increase to 3 slots per night, offer some possibly parallel slots where there are clearly disjoint interest areas, or arrange to post-pone one or more topics to our next session in Novemebr. We do our best to be as flexible as possible but there are limits to what is reasonable.
We will continue to publish the information early when it comes in early (not usually the case), with the latest being right at the 30-day-before limit to remind folks if there are any open slots available.
Thanx, Buzz

Buzz,
Thanks for giving us this review opportunity. I hope this will be a regular part of the procedure. When it comes to tutorials, I don't like surprises.
The program looks pretty good to me. I hope that the Chair's Guidelines are followed, including "Present multiple viewpoints and speakers where appropriate." It's not apparent from the abstracts that this one will be observed.
Another issue: the tutorial request deadline is 1 month before the session. Locking down the schedule now (three months before the July session) is going to freeze out other proposals. I think we ought to think about revisiting the first-come/first-served system.
Roger
