Re: [802SEC] March 2005 Plenary Session overflow rooms and Hyatt Regency rate changes
Tony, Wow, now here's a guy with a great memory. Actually, it was the Ritz Carlton Hotel at Buckhead (a suburb of Atlanta) which is snobby enough to actually have an enforced dress-code (remember the liveried doormen?). But it is the Ritz-Carlton management company that does that, not juat the Atlanta location. You will note we have not done anymore Ritz Carlton hotels since that one mistake, so I would not be concerned that we will see a similar problem this time. But I will have Dawn or Jennifer double-check to make sure that casual attire (e.g. blue jeans) will be acceptable in all areas of the hotel (except possibly their highest-priced, fanciest restaurant). Both Hyatt and Hilton tend to cater to business travelers and are generally very accepting of casual attire. What a blast of nostaglia, though !!! :-)
Thanx, Buzz

Buzz -
I seem to remember, way back in the dim & distant past when we were last in Atlanta for a plenary session (mid-late 80's IIRC), that the hotel (was it the Hilton?) had a dress code which meant that many 802-ers were disenfranchised from using the hotel bar and/or restaurant because they had only brought casual clothes. I remember being refused service in the hotel bar because I was wearing blue jeans.
If that is going to happen to us again (in either property), then it would be appropriate to warn our membership ahead of time so they can either vote with their feet & find a more relaxed hotel, or bring clothing that fits the code. Or even better, persuade them to waive the code during our stay.
Regards,
Tony
