SUB: New 802.11 PARs for Submittal to 802 ExCom for Approval
802 ExCom Members,
Under Procedure 2 of the IEEE Project 802 LAN MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Policies & Procedures paragraph 2, I am submitting the following two new PARs for your consideration for Approval at the Portland 2004 session:
1) Resubmitted to the 802 ExCom: (previously March 2004)
1.1) - 802.11p - Wireless Access for the Vehicular Environment (Amendment to the 802.11 Standard), & 5 Criteria
This PAR was both originally rejected by the 802 ExCom in March 2004 as the WG had no confirmed quorum at the preceding Interim session where an approval vote was obtained, and because of further discussion and arguments made at the 802 ExCom on issues raised as to the suitability of whether it was to be an amendment or a stand-alone document. At which point the WG Chair with permission, withdraw the item from the agenda and took the issues back to the WG / SG for further consideration at their next Interim session.
At the May 2004 Garden Grove, CA interim session of the WG, the PAR & 5 Criteria was approved:
WAVE SG Vote: 22 : 1 : 3
802.11 WG Closing Plenary Vote: 60 : 11 : 19
The WG Chair advised that in the light that the vote was taken during an Interim session where there was possibly a quorum present, but with due consideration for a margin of error of one, a 15 day WG Letter Ballot should be conducted to affirm the vote taken:
The result of this 15 day WG LB# 70 that closed June 5th, 2004 was: 330 YES : 24 NO : 20 ABS
2) New submittal to the 802 ExCom:
2.1) - 802.11T - Wireless Performance Prediction (Recommended Practice), & 5 Criteria
At the May 2004 Garden Grove, CA interim session of the WG, the PAR & 5 Criteria was approved:
WPP SG Vote: 11 : 0 : 0
802.11 WG Closing Plenary Vote: 62 : 2 : 17
The WG Chair advised that in the light that the vote was taken during an Interim session where there was possibly a quorum present, but with due consideration for a margin of error of one, a 15 day WG Letter Ballot should be conducted to affirm the vote taken:
The result of this 15 day WG LB# 69 that closed June 5th, 2004 was: 329 YES : 18 NO : 27 ABS
Both of the above two Pending PARs and their 5 Criteria are downloadable from the 802.11 Web Site for your due consideration at:
