The
IEEE 802.18 Radio Regulatory Technical Advisory Group met in conjunction with
the March IEEE 802 Plenary in Orlando, Florida.
During
the session, 802.18 prepared and approved comments to the FCC on both the
"Interference Temperature" and "Cognitive Radio" NPRMs.
Both
documents were also approved by the 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, and 802.20 wireless
working groups, and then by the 802 Executive Committee as the views of IEEE
802, and the Chair of 802.18 was authorized to file them with the FCC in a
timely fashion.
802.18's Study Group 1 (unlicensed use of unused TV broadcast spectrum)
also met during the plenary session and considerable progress was made towards
consensus on many issues, leading up to the preparation of a PAR and 5
Criteria. The study group plans to continue to progress the discussions by
correspondence, and perhaps a teleconference or two, between now and the May
interim session, with the goal of approving a PAR and 5 Criteria in May for
submission to the 802 Executive Committee at the July plenary, seeking their
approval to forward the PAR and 5 Criteria to NESCOM.
802.18, the 802 Executive Commitee, and the relevant officials of the
IEEE-SA also approved an informational input contribution on the 802.16 standard
and submitted the document to ITU-R Joint Task Group 6-8-9, which is meeting at
ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland the week of March
20th.
